A new collaborative workspace has come to Ely

Ely, Cambridgeshire – A dynamic new co-working and community space, The Ely Work Collective, is set to open its doors on Monday, 23rd March 2026, in St Thomas Place, Ely. Designed to meet the evolving needs of freelancers, remote and hybrid workers, startups, and small businesses across Cambridgeshire, The Ely Work Collective will offer a flexible and inspiring environment for productivity, collaboration, and professional growth.

Located on the Upper Floor of 28 St Thomas Place, the space will feature a mix of hot desks, meeting rooms, and a professional studio—all equipped with high-speed internet, modern amenities, and thoughtful design to support a wide range of working styles. With a focus on fostering connection and work-life balance, the Ely Work Collective will also host regular workshops, events, and podcast recordings.

“We’re excited to bring a new kind of working space to Ely—one that goes beyond a desk and Wi-Fi. The Ely Work Collective is about community, support, and flexibility,” said James Ford, co-founder of The Ely Work Collective. “Whether you’re a freelancer looking for a creative atmosphere, a hybrid worker looking for a separate modern space away from home, or a team wanting to host a meeting in a professional setting, this is a space designed for you.”

The opening reflects a broader shift toward hybrid and remote work patterns across the region and offers a practical, local alternative to commuting into cities like Cambridge or London.

Key features include:

  • Flexible desk rental (daily and monthly)
  • 24 desks, all with high-speed WiFi
  • Quality free teas and locally sourced coffee
  • Easily accessible Ely location close to the train station
  • Flexible event spaces in varying sizes for community and business activities

The team are passionate about grounding the workspace in the local Ely community by working with local suppliers and businesses. For example, the free coffee available will be from local roastery Simply Great Coffee, and the IT infrastructure was implemented and supported by The Ely Computer Centre. Many other local businesses are part of the monthly membership package, encouraging close ties to the community the new space will serve.
