This September, we’re doing something we’ve wanted to do for a while: throwing a party just for Ely’s small business community.
Running a business or working for yourself is brilliant, but it can also be pretty solitary. There’s no corporate summer bash on your calendar, no team night out to look forward to, and not always someone nearby to celebrate the wins with. So, this year, we decided to create one ourselves – and to use it as a chance to give something back to the local community at the same time.
What’s happening
The Small Business Summer Party takes place on Friday 18th September, 5.30pm-10pm, at the beautiful Willow Grange Farm. Think a welcome drink on arrival, fresh pizzas straight from Willow Grange Farm’s outdoor pizza oven, games, good company, and a few surprises along the way. It’s an evening to swap the desk for the sunshine, meet other local business owners and freelancers, and celebrate the year so far – together.
And the best news – all proceeds from the event go directly to Ely Foodbank.
Why we’re supporting Ely Foodbank
Giving back to the local community is something that matters to us at every level of what we do, so it felt right to build that into this event from the start.
Ely Foodbank has been providing emergency food and support to people facing hardship across East Cambridgeshire and Fenland since 2012. Today, the charity runs nine sessions a week across eight locations, covering an area of 288 square miles. In the past year alone, it distributed more than 3,700 emergency food parcels, supporting over 9,000 people – including more than 3,500 children.
A spokesperson for Ely Foodbank told us:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Ely Work Collective for holding this event and for everyone who’s been involved. Your support enables us to be there for local people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Every donation makes a difference, and we remain humbled by the kindness and generosity shown by our community.”
As well as ticket proceeds, we’ll have a food donation point on the night for anyone who’d like to bring something along. Ely Foodbank is currently particularly short of: Tinned meat, UHT milk, Tinned fruit, Coffee, Tinned rice pudding or custard.
